Today’s Inspiration: “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”Romans 12:11-12 NIV. Our zeal is derived from our passion for life but our passion can fall on the wrong places for the wrong reasons. The difference between King Saul and King David is their passion for the Kingdom of God. Saul was passionate on the things of God for self elevation not just as a king but also a priest, which defied Prophet Samuel’s instructions. But King David was passionate on the God of all creation, not for self glorification.
God has His divine order, process and appointments. Ministers or leaders can get burnt out or worn out when they run out of hope, patience and interest. These sums up one’s spiritual fervour in serving the Lord. If your passion is not on Christ but on other things, the gasoline can burnt pretty fast and when things don’t go your way, you tend to take things into your hands rather than to God like Saul. God is not in the rush to see His plans and purpose for your life to be revealed and fulfilled for the glory of God. Rather it is not what we are passionate on but who we are obedient to that sustains our zeal and spiritual fervour. Jesus called the disciples and ask,” Who do you say that I am?” Who is Christ to you? I believe this is most critical question in our daily devotion, passion, and zeal.
Prayer: O Lord my God, you are my hope of glory and your word is the lamp to my feet and light to my path. Forgive me if I have put my passion on things, people or positions rather than on you. It is you who sustains me daily and all my help comes from you alone. Make me zealous for your Name and give me an unquenchable passion like you to glorify the Father’s kingdom. For out of your Spirit, shall flow new living waters of spiritual fervour to bring hope, healing, and humility through the gospel in Jesus' Name, Amen.
